About Kevin
Where Experience, Artistry, and Wildlife Come Together.
Like many people in my profession, I have always had a fascination with and an admiration for wildlife.
As a young boy, I remember my family visiting the Call of the Wild Museum in Gaylord, Michigan. For me, it was an overwhelming experience; a complete sensory overload of wildlife, habitats, and artistry. Since then, I have revisited that museum and have had the opportunity to see wildlife dioramas in museums throughout the country.
Those complete three-dimensional scenes, depicting animals in their natural habitats, continue to inspire me. They compel me to pursue greater accuracy in my work while also fueling my imagination and creativity. Anatomical accuracy, habitat, color, form, and presentation all come together in taxidermy as a thoughtful and artistic medium.
I began my professional career in 1991, working for myself. In 1995, I was offered a position with Taxidermy by Dourlain in Birch Run, Michigan. In 2000, I was offered the opportunity to work at Animal Artistry in Reno, Nevada, one of the most highly regarded taxidermy studios in the world.
That move became one of the most influential steps in my career. I had the privilege of working alongside exceptionally talented artists who generously shared their knowledge, experience, and craftsmanship with me. Their influence helped cultivate my abilities and shaped the way I approach my work today.
A year later, with a young family, we returned to Michigan, where I continued my career with Taxidermy by Dourlain.
On September 1, 2026, I concluded my career at Taxidermy by Dourlain and began a new chapter by opening my own business, complete with a separate, fully operational studio at my home in Elsie, Michigan.
My aspiration is to continue pursuing this profession at the highest level while expanding my work to include sculpture and custom woodcarving. I want each piece I create to reflect the same attention to detail, craftsmanship, and artistic vision that have guided me throughout my career.
I am deeply thankful to my Creator for His creations and for the unique abilities and opportunities He has given me. I consider it a privilege to work with wildlife and to use the skills He has given me to preserve its beauty and create something meaningful that can be appreciated for generations to come.
